Pregnant & Pivoting
Season 2 of Your Next Business Bestie is here, and we are starting with a personal one.
When I launched this podcast in 2024, I promised myself it would bring me joy, not stress. I wanted it to feel like a conversation with friends, a space where I could share the messy, beautiful, ever-changing realities of entrepreneurship. Season 2 is no exception.
This first episode is about what it is like to run a business while growing a tiny human.
Yes, I am pregnant. And yes, it has completely shifted how I work, how I rest, and how I think about my business.
The Pivot I Didn't See Coming
If you have listened to the show before, you know I love talking about building businesses that flex with our lives. It is one thing to say it. It is another thing to live it.
Pregnancy forced me to pivot in ways I did not expect. I had to slow down. I had to take naps in the middle of the day. I had to give myself permission to stretch deadlines and say no to things that did not fit my energy.
Most of all, I had to let go of the pressure to "push through" just because I used to be able to do more in a day. My business is mine, which means I can adjust it to fit my life right now. And that is exactly what I have done.
The Power of Being Honest
One of the hardest parts in the beginning was not sharing. I am usually pretty open online, but for the first few months, I kept this part of my life quiet. And that made it hard to show up authentically.
When I finally did share our news, the response was beautiful. So many people said, "Me too," and I was reminded again why being honest and vulnerable matters. You never know who might need to hear your story or who might have the exact resource you need in return.
Things People Need to Stop Saying to Pregnant Humans
Let’s also talk about the comments. If you have ever been pregnant, you probably know what I mean. The one that gets me most? "You are going to be tired for the rest of your life."
That is not helpful. That is not encouraging. And it definitely is not necessary.
Pregnant people are going through a lot, not just physically but mentally. Before you comment, please ask yourself if what you are about to say is kind, supportive, and actually useful.
Business Can (and Should) Change with You
Whether you ever plan to have children or not, this is true for all of us: Your business can change to fit your life.
You do not have to keep working the way you always have. You do not have to live inside the structures you built last year or last month. You can pivot. You can adjust. You can create something that works for who you are now.
That is the beauty of being self-employed. That is the magic of building something that is truly yours.
What’s Next
This season, I am diving deeper into the real-life experiences of being a business owner, a strategist, and now, a soon-to-be mom. I will be sharing my plans (and probably plenty of changes) around maternity leave and what life as a pregnant entrepreneur actually looks like.
I will also be bringing you amazing guests with their own stories of business pivots, life transitions, and lessons learned along the way.
If you have your own experience to share about pregnancy and entrepreneurship or if your business has had to pivot for other big life moments, I would love to hear from you.
Season 2 is here, and I am so excited to grow with you.
